Description:
Songs of Scotland is a rare late-19th-century illustrated songbook, selected by the celebrated English author E. Nesbit, with artwork by N. Bellingham Smith, G. E. Corner, and G. Gorsky. Containing 18 traditional Scottish songs, twelve of which are attributed to Robert Burns, this edition highlights the popularity of Scottish ballads in Victorian Britain.
Notably, Maxwelton’s Braes Are Bonnie is incorrectly attributed to Burns, and When I Think of the Happy Days includes fragments of Burns’ How Lang and Dreary is the Night. With charming period illustrations and delicate typography, this book is as much a cultural artefact as it is a music collection.
Why You’ll Love It:
A scarce and collectible piece of Victorian music publishing, perfect for lovers of Scottish heritage, folk music, or illustrated songbooks.
